Our expertise

Gas and oil: we cover both

Most heating engineers specialise in either gas or oil. We're Gas Safe registered for gas appliances, and Julian previously trained and worked as an OFTEC registered engineer on oil, which means one trusted engineer for whatever system your Devon home runs on.

Boiler types we work on

  • Combi boilers: the most common type in Devon homes. Provides hot water and heating on demand with no separate cylinder.
  • System boilers: works with a hot water cylinder. Good for homes with higher hot water demand or multiple bathrooms.
  • Conventional (regular) boilers: older style with both cylinder and cold water tank. We service, repair and replace these.
  • Back boilers: fitted behind a gas fire. Still common in older Devon properties. We service and repair these.
  • Oil pressure jet boilers: OFTEC-trained servicing and repair. All makes including Grant, Worcester, Warmflow, Riello and Trianco.

Common faults we fix

  • Yellow or irregular flames: sign of incomplete combustion
  • Boiler losing pressure: needs refilling more than once a month
  • No hot water or heating
  • Noisy boiler: banging, whistling or fan screeching
  • Boiler cutting out or locking out
  • Radiators cold at the top or bottom
  • Thermostat and controls not responding

Common questions

Boiler & heating FAQs

Questions we hear every day, answered honestly.

A new gas combi boiler installation typically costs £1,500–£3,000 including parts and labour, depending on the boiler model and complexity of the installation. Oil boiler installations tend to be slightly higher. We provide a fixed quote before any work starts: no surprises.
A straightforward like-for-like boiler replacement usually takes one full day. A more complex installation (new pipework, different location, or conversion from one boiler type to another) may take two days. We'll give you a realistic timeline with your quote.
As a rough guide: if your boiler is under 8 years old, repair is usually worth it. Between 8–12 years, compare the repair cost to a new installation: if repair exceeds 50% of a new boiler's cost, replacement often makes more sense. Over 12 years, a new A-rated boiler will typically pay back in energy savings within 3–5 years. We'll give you an honest recommendation either way.
Yes, for safety and efficiency. Annual servicing is a legal requirement for landlords. For homeowners it's not legally required, but most manufacturers require annual servicing to keep the warranty valid. A serviced boiler also runs more efficiently, which reduces your gas or oil bills.
Yes. We are Gas Safe registered for gas, and OFTEC-trained for oil, so we cover both. Many rural Devon properties run on oil, and we have extensive experience with pressure jet oil boilers from all major manufacturers including Grant, Worcester, Warmflow, Riello and Trianco.
